We shall be visiting places that are significant in the lives of St Teresa and St John of Cross: Avila, the birth place of St Teresa, now the Convent de la Santa, the Convent of San Jose, the first of her foundations, the Convent of the Incarnation; Alba des Tormes, the convent she founded in 1571 and where she died; Fontiveros, the birth place of John of the Cross; Toledo, the place where John of the Cross was imprisoned; Segovia, the priory where John of the Cross was the Prior and where his tomb is; Medina del Campo, where Teresa and John met for the first time. We walk in their footsteps to gain insight into their lives and to enrich our spiritual heritage.

1st October         London Gatwick – Madrid – Toledo

We leave Gatwick Airport at 10:50 and arrive at Madrid at 14:15 for transfer by coach to Toledo. Toledo is the birthplace of John of the Cross. It is also a city of arts and cultures, known as the City of the Three Cultures (Christian, Muslim and Jewish), and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  The famous El Greco Museum is well worth a visit. We stay for two nights in Toledo.

2nd October         Toledo

More sight-seeing in Toledo. Stay the night in Toledo.

3rd October         Toledo – Avila

We leave Toledo after Mass to go to Avila. Avila is an impressive medieval walled city. The wall has 88 turrets. We check into our hotel in Avila where we shall stay for five nights.
